The watch file specifies a githubredir.debian.net URL, which is deprecated
Instead, use direct links to the tags page:
version=3
https://github.com/<user>/<project>/tags .*/(.*)\.tar\.gz
replacing <user> and <project> with the Github username and project
respectively.
