Status for html5lib/1.2-5

Patch Description Author Forwarded Bugs Origin Last update
0001-devendor-webencodings.patch Devendor webencodings Import the system python3-webencodings rather than the copy upstream
vendorised for 1.2, and stop building that copy into the binary package:
once the import is redirected nothing under html5lib/ references
html5lib.contrib at all.

0002-Fix-deprecated-ast.Str-usage.patch Fix deprecated ast.Str usage Timo Röhling <roehling@debian.org> no 2025-12-22
0003-Fix-deprecated-py.path.local-usage.patch Fix deprecated py.path.local usage Timo Röhling <roehling@debian.org> no 2025-12-22
0004-Close-the-addinfourl-wrapper-in-test_stream.patch Close the addinfourl wrapper in test_stream test_python_issue_20007_b leaves the addinfourl it wraps around the fake
HTTPResponse unclosed, so the socket is only released when the object is
garbage collected, emitting a ResourceWarning at some arbitrary later
point in the run. Close it explicitly instead.
.
This replaces 0004-Ignore-ResourceWarning-with-Python-3.14.patch, which
handled the same leak from the other end by suppressing ResourceWarning
for every tokenizer test. Neither patch is needed to build against
pytest 9.1 and Python 3.14 -- the suite passes with both removed -- but
the leak itself is real and upstream has a fix pending.
Dale Richards <dale@dalerichards.net> yes upstream, https://github.com/html5lib/html5lib-python/pull/591 2026-09-18
0005-Replace-pkg_resources-usage.patch Replace pkg_resources usage setuptools 82 dropped pkg_resources, so both setup.py and the test suite's
conftest.py now fail on import. Make the setup.py import optional -- its
only consumer is a workaround for setuptools older than 18.5, which cannot
be the case when pkg_resources is missing -- and port conftest.py to
packaging plus importlib.metadata.
.
Adapted from the upstream pull request, without its importlib_metadata
fallback: this fork requires Python >= 3.8, where importlib.metadata is part
of the standard library.
Dale Richards <dale@dalerichards.net> yes debian upstream upstream, https://github.com/html5lib/html5lib-python/pull/594 2026-09-18
0006-Restore-the-html5lib-distribution-name.patch Restore the html5lib distribution name The html5lib-modern fork renamed the distribution so it could be published
next to the original on PyPI, but it keeps the html5lib module name and
upstream's own setup.py still passes name='html5lib'. Debian has no such
namespace to contend with: the binary package is python3-html5lib and it
stands in for html5lib outright.
.
Building under the pyproject name installs html5lib_modern-<v>.dist-info,
which has two consequences. importlib.metadata.version("html5lib") raises
PackageNotFoundError, where it worked up to 1.1-6 (which shipped
html5lib-1.1.egg-info); and dh_python3 cannot map a "Requires-Dist:
html5lib" onto python3-html5lib, so it drops that dependency from
${python3:Depends} with only a log.info line to show for it.
.
debian/python3-html5lib.pydist keeps the html5lib-modern spelling
resolvable for packages that ask for the fork by name.
